World Downe Syndrome day

20th Mar 2026

Today at St Malachy’s, we marked World Down Syndrome Day in the most joyful and heartfelt way. The whole school came together for a special assembly dedicated to celebrating Daniel and the unique brightness he brings to our community.

Daniel’s mum kindly provided cake and treat bags, adding an extra touch of sweetness to the day. The boys and girls were absolutely delighted — not just because of the treats, but because they adore Daniel so, so much. Their excitement to celebrate his specialness shone through every part of the morning.

In preparation for today, the children learned a song in Makaton, practising proudly so they could share it with Daniel as a sign of love, respect, and inclusion. Seeing the whole school signing together created a beautiful moment that captured the spirit of belonging that St Malachy’s is known for.

As part of the assembly, staff and pupils also gathered special memories from Daniel’s journey so far in our school — moments of friendship, learning, laughter, and joy. Putting these memories together reminded everyone of just how much Daniel has grown, how deeply he is cherished, and how much richer our school is because he is part of it.

Today wasn’t just a celebration of World Down Syndrome Day — it was a celebration of Daniel: his personality, his progress, and the wonderful impact he has on the St Malachy’s family
