Loose parts
This afternoon, the Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils had a fantastic time outdoors using loose parts to design and build a balancing pathway across the playground. Working together, they selected from a wide range of wooden pieces in different shapes and sizes, carefully placing them to create a winding route that led all the way to a “treasure” at the end.
The pupils were highly engaged as they challenged themselves to move along the path without stepping off. They used lots of trial and error—adjusting pieces, rethinking their designs, and supporting one another when parts wobbled or didn’t quite work. Through this hands-on exploration, they developed resilience and problem-solving skills, learning that it’s okay to make mistakes and try again.
There was great teamwork and creativity on show, with children sharing ideas, encouraging each other, and taking pride in their evolving pathway. The activity also helped to build balance, coordination, and confidence as they carefully navigated their creations.
Overall, it was a fun and active learning experience that combined physical challenge, imaginative play, and collaborative thinking while keeping the excitement of reaching the treasure at the end as a motivating goal.
