KS2 Archaeological dig 🦴⛏️💎

10th Apr 2025
Yesterday the children in KS2 participated in a real life archaeological dig just outside Downpatrick in the hope to uncover artefacts from an ancient monastery thought to be destroyed by John DeCourcy following his invasion of Ulster in 1177AD. The children thoroughly enjoyed the excavation and it was a great experience for them, learning about their own local history and being involved in the discovery of several interesting artefacts. Many thanks to Brian Sloan from the Community Archaeology Programme Northern Ireland (CAPNI) and his team from Queens University Belfast for leading this hands on experience for our pupils and inviting us along.
