Bugs and mini beasts in P1&2
The pupils have been exploring the world of bugs and minibeasts with real curiosity and enthusiasm. They’ve been learning about how these tiny creatures live, move, and survive, and they’ve loved getting up close to observe their shapes, colours, and patterns.
As part of the topic, they’ve: Studied different bugs first-hand, using magnifying glasses to look closely at features like wings, legs, antennae, and body segments. Drawn and painted detailed pictures, paying attention to textures and markings they noticed during their observations. Written simple facts, such as what the creatures eat, where they live, and how they protect themselves. Labelling diagrams, helping them learn scientific vocabulary and understand the structure of each minibeast.
This hands-on approach has helped them build confidence in observing, describing, and recording information. It’s also sparked plenty of excitement and conversation as they’ve discovered just how fascinating the tiny world around them can be. In their persuasive writing they have passionately been arguing about why we should look after bugs and minibeast and not kill them. Well done boys and girls, your paintings have greatly added colour to our classroom. 🐞🐛🦟🪲
